🔒 Privacy First: This application runs entirely inside your local browser. Your API key is cached locally in your own browser's storage and sent directly to OpenRouter. We never collect or store your key.
🔑 Step 1: Create an OpenRouter API Key
- Visit the OpenRouter API Keys Page ↗.
- Sign up for a free account (or log in).
- Click the "Create Key" button, name your key (e.g., "MathBoard"), and copy the generated key string (which begins with `sk-or-`).
- Paste this key into the API Key input box on the MathBoard home screen.
🤖 Step 2: Choose a Model Routing Mode
MathBoard supports multiple Routing Modes to resolve questions:
- Free Model Routing: Completely cost-free! Uses highly capable, open-source AI models. Response times can sometimes vary based on network load.
- GPT-5.6 Luna (Paid): Connects directly to OpenAI's fast, cost-efficient Luna model. Ideal for swift and precise responses.
- GPT-4o Mini (Paid): Routes requests directly to OpenAI's balanced, economical Mini model.
- Auto Model Routing (Paid): Automatically selects the fastest, most cost-effective paid model based on current latency and pricing, paid via your OpenRouter balance.
🔒 Step 3: Security & Budgeting Best Practices
If you load balance onto your OpenRouter account to use paid models, we highly suggest enforcing these safety limits on your OpenRouter key:
- API Key Limits: Set a strict daily or monthly usage limit (e.g. $1.00) in your OpenRouter key settings to prevent accidental over-spending.
- Delete When Done: Always use the "Clear" button on MathBoard when you are finished using a shared device.
